Cyclades
Quite beauty, clifftop town, appealing villages
In the southern edge of the Cyclades, a tiny island with terraced fields sloping down to the sea, with verdant countryside dotted with chapels and ruins, and numerous beaches to explore.
Dark past: Although you will find no signs of it today, the remoteness and ruggedness of the island made it a place of exile for political prisoners from Roman times to as late as the military dictatorship of 1967-74.
